Physicist Jun Ye Wins 2026 Wolf Prize in Physics for Ultracold-Atom Breakthroughs and Record Optical Clocks
BOULDER, Colo. — The Wolf Foundation announced on the evening of October 1 that physicist Jun Ye will share the 2026 Wolf Prize in Physics with Germany's Immanuel Bloch, honoring transformative advances in the control of ultracold atomic systems. Ye works at JILA, a joint institute of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and the University of Colorado Boulder, where his team has built strontium lattice optical clocks that are the most precise and stable atomic clocks in the world.
Founded in 1978, the Wolf Prize is widely regarded as a leading indicator for the Nobel Prize. Chinese-language media note that Ye is only the second Chinese scientist to win the Wolf Prize in Physics in the award's 48-year history, after Chien-Shiung Wu in 1978.
