Precautionary Checks Along Wairarapa Coast After H5 Bird Flu Found in Petrel
New Zealand media reported on October 14 that the Ministry for Primary Industries said its staff are carrying out precautionary checks along the Wairarapa coastline after H5 bird flu was confirmed in a northern giant petrel at Cape Palliser. Three H5 detections have been confirmed in New Zealand so far, all in the Wellington region and all in wild birds, with no poultry affected. The ministry publicised its reporting hotline, 0800 80 99 66, for reports of unusual bird deaths.
