About 300,000 Irish Public-Sector Workers Strike; Over 150,000 Hospital Appointments Cancelled
Reuters reported on October 14 that about 300,000 public-sector workers in Ireland went on strike on Wednesday, the country's first widespread public-sector strike since 2009. The walkout stems from a deadlock in pay talks after the previous agreement expired in June. More than 150,000 hospital appointments were cancelled and most schools closed, while emergency services were maintained. The government's Budget 2027 earmarks €1.2 billion for a new pay deal.
