El Cajon City Council Unanimously Rejects Pay Raise Proposal, Citing Tight Budget
The El Cajon City Council unanimously voted down a proposal to give council members and the mayor a 5 percent pay raise. The staff proposal, which would have taken effect in 2027, would have raised the mayor's monthly salary from $3,380 to $3,549 and council members' from $2,336 to $2,453, at an annual cost of about $7,644 plus associated pension costs. Council members said that, with department budgets already cut, a raise now would look bad and could wait.
