麻省理工学院起诉亚马逊云服务，指控其侵犯两项密码学专利
麻省理工学院（MIT）已对亚马逊云服务（AWS）提起诉讼，指控其侵犯该校两项密码学专利。据10月12日披露的消息，诉讼于10月9日提交至马萨诸塞州联邦法院。MIT称，AWS通过从半导体设计技术公司Synopsys购买「物理不可克隆函数」（PUF）技术，侵犯了基于该校Srinivas Devadas教授及其合著者研究成果的两项专利。
PUF是一种广泛用于密码学的技术，可为计算机芯片等设备生成唯一标识。MIT在诉状中表示，Synopsys的静态随机存取存储器PUF技术的客户侵犯了其专利，并称亚马逊若依赖其他供应商的PUF产品，同样侵犯其中一项专利。校方要求法院判给金钱赔偿。亚马逊方面尚未回应置评请求，Synopsys未被列为被告，该公司拒绝置评。
值得注意的是，MIT今年5月曾就类似专利对微软提起诉讼，该案仍在审理中。连续两起诉讼显示，高校正日益积极地通过专利维权保护其科研成果的商业价值。

MIT Sues Amazon Web Services Over Two Cryptography Patents
BOSTON — The Massachusetts Institute of Technology has sued Amazon Web Services, alleging infringement of two of the university's cryptography patents, according to news disclosed on Oct. 12. The suit was filed Oct. 9 in federal court in Massachusetts. MIT says AWS infringed by buying “physical unclonable function” (PUF) technology from semiconductor design firm Synopsys, based on research by MIT professor Srinivas Devadas and his co-authors.
PUF technology, widely used in cryptography, generates unique identifiers for devices such as computer chips. MIT's complaint says customers of Synopsys's static random-access-memory PUF technology infringe its patents, and that to the extent Amazon relies on other suppliers' PUF products, those also infringe one of the patents. The university is seeking monetary damages. Amazon had no immediate comment; Synopsys, which is not a defendant, declined to comment.
MIT filed a similar patent suit against Microsoft in May, which is still pending. The back-to-back cases show universities increasingly asserting patent rights to protect the commercial value of their research.
