Houston Sports Hall of Fame Welcomes Nine New Members, Led by J.J. Watt
The Houston Sports Hall of Fame inducted nine new members at a ceremony at Le Tesserae on October 12, bringing its total membership to 30 since its founding in 2018. This year's class is headlined by legendary Texans defensive end J.J. Watt, Astros great Billy Wagner and Dynamo star Brian Ching.
According to sports media reports, the Hall honors athletes who have made outstanding contributions to the city's sports history. Its inaugural class included baseball legend Nolan Ryan and football great Earl Campbell, setting the Hall's standard. The plaques along the downtown walkway keep growing with each new class, becoming a fixture of Houston's sports culture.
Watt won three NFL Defensive Player of the Year awards with the Texans and is one of the franchise's defining stars; Wagner is one of the greatest closers in Astros history; and Ching, the Dynamo's all-time leading scorer, helped the club win multiple MLS championships. The induction of legends from three different sports in one class reflects the depth and diversity of Houston's sporting heritage.
