Rubio Speaks With UK Foreign Secretary Miliband on Hormuz Transit, Iran Accountability
Secretary of State Marco Rubio spoke on October 12 with UK Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband, according to a readout issued by the State Department's Office of the Spokesman (attributable to Spokesman Tommy Pigott).
The two reiterated their shared commitment to safeguarding transit in the Strait of Hormuz and the importance of holding Iran to account for its actions, as well as continued collaboration to secure U.S. assets in the United Kingdom. Secretary Rubio reaffirmed the value of the close U.S.-UK partnership to stabilize global energy markets while also bringing the Russia-Ukraine conflict to an end through a negotiated settlement.
The call came the same day the United States, the United Kingdom and 27 other nations issued a joint statement condemning Iran over an attempted attack at RAF Fairford.
