Trump Names Katie Zacharia as White House Press Secretary
President Trump announced on Truth Social on October 9 that he is appointing conservative commentator Katie Zacharia as White House press secretary, succeeding Karoline Leavitt, who left at the end of August. Zacharia will be the sixth White House press secretary across Trump's two terms, taking office one month before the November midterm elections.
Trump described Zacharia, currently a senior communications adviser at Trump Media & Technology Group, as "a loyal and outstanding supporter from the very beginning" who helped him win key swing states. She briefly served earlier this year as Department of Homeland Security spokesperson and deputy assistant secretary for public affairs before departing in March, and has since appeared frequently as a commentator on Fox News and other conservative outlets. She holds a law degree from Pepperdine University.
The press secretary post had been vacant since Leavitt announced her departure on August 12 and formally stepped down on August 27, saying she wanted to spend more time with her young children. Trump has invited her to stay on as an "external senior adviser," and Fox News announced this week that Leavitt will join the network as a commentator starting November 1. Zacharia said on social media that serving Trump and the American people in the year of America's 250th anniversary is "the honor of a lifetime."
