Utah Receives Major Disaster Declaration After Cottonwood Fire Flooding and Mudslides
The Utah governor's office said October 8 that the president signed a major disaster declaration on October 7 for the June 2026 Cottonwood Fire and the ensuing July flooding and mudslides, making FEMA public assistance funding available to eligible entities in Beaver and Piute counties. A joint damage assessment by FEMA, the state and local governments identified at least $47 million in possible eligible damages, and Governor Cox thanked federal partners for helping the rural communities recover.
