Nicolas Cage Says He May Never Work With Amazon Again Over 'Spider-Noir' AI Waiver He Refused to Sign
Nicolas Cage said on Saturday at New York Comic Con that he may never work with Amazon again — because the streamer asked him to sign an AI waiver for "Spider-Noir." Speaking at the "Spotlight on Nicolas Cage" panel at the Javits Center on October 10, the Oscar winner told the audience he never signed it and had no intention of doing so. "I didn't sign the waiver to let him use AI on 'Spider Noir.' I'm probably not going to be working with that studio again, but that's okay," Cage said.
The actor framed the dispute as a matter of principle, not money. Cage told the panel that "Amazon is a very AI-friendly company," adding that he himself was not. Marvel fans had warmly received "Spider-Noir" when it premiered on Prime Video, but its star now says he is out of their club. The remarks landed as Hollywood's AI fight enters a new stage: last year, actors, studios and streamers already clashed over digital likenesses and training-data use, and AI consent waivers are now standard fine print on many projects.
This is not the first time Cage has gone public on AI. At the 2025 Saturn Awards, he warned an audience about the dangers of letting artificial intelligence take over the creative arts, and he has repeatedly refused to participate in digital recreations of his own image. On Saturday's panel he also spent time praising a new generation of filmmakers — applauding Gen-Z directors for using whatever tools and platforms are at hand, including YouTube.
For Amazon, the episode is an unwelcome headline at a moment when streamers are competing for prestige talent. For the industry, it is a reminder that the AI debate has moved from contract language to personal conscience: for some actors, the waiver is just paperwork; for others, like Cage, it is the line. The 62-year-old star has in recent years enjoyed one of the most unlikely career revivals in Hollywood — "Longlegs" became the biggest opening in NEON's history — and he made clear he would rather keep making films his way than sign away his likeness.
Whether the standoff affects "Spider-Noir's" future is unknown. Amazon has not publicly responded. What is clear is that the most outspoken anti-AI voice in mainstream Hollywood has now named a price for his principles — and he is willing to walk away from a studio to keep it.
