Australia's hopes of a first win at Eden Park since 1986 were dashed on 10 October 2026 as the Wallabies lost 50-19 to New Zealand in the first Bledisloe Cup Test in Auckland. Reuters reported that Australia trailed only 17-14 at halftime, but the All Blacks scored five second-half tries to secure the Cup for a 24th straight year ahead of the second Test in Sydney on 17 October.
Australia arrived unbeaten in six matches and buoyed by a win over world champions South Africa last month. Fullback Tom Wright scored the opening try in the eighth minute, and captain Harry Wilson added another before the break to keep the visitors within three points.
The match turned after halftime. Peter Lakai, Tupou Vaa'i, Cam Roigard, captain Codie Taylor, Leroy Carter, Josh Moorby and Will Jordan all crossed for New Zealand, with flyhalf Damian McKenzie contributing 15 points from the boot. The result ended a run of three straight losses to South Africa for the All Blacks.
Australia coach Les Kiss had kept a settled starting side, with Isaac Henry replacing the suspended Hunter Paisami in the centres. Replacement hooker Josh Nasser scored a late consolation try. The Wallabies must fix their second-half defensive collapse before the return match in Sydney next week.
