UNLV Named One of 7 New FAST Recipients to Help Nevada Small Businesses Pursue Federal R&D Funding
On October 7 in Las Vegas, the Nevada Governor's Office of Economic Development (GOED) announced the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) has selected the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) as one of seven new recipients of a Federal and State Technology (FAST) Partnership Program grant to strengthen support for small businesses and startups seeking federal research and development funding. FAST provides specialized training, mentoring and technical assistance to help firms compete through America's Seed Fund, which includes the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs, the nation's largest sources of early-stage, non-dilutive funding for technology-based small businesses. The application was spearheaded by GOED in partnership with UNLV, marking Nevada's fourth FAST award since GOED was created in 2011. The grant will expand the Sierra Accelerator for Growth and Entrepreneurship (SAGE), with SAGE North at the University of Nevada, Reno and SAGE South at UNLV; the Knowledge Fund provided a 67 percent cash match. Expansion plans include a Foundry for Entrepreneur Development and Deep Technology Commercialization, a structured SBIR/STTR curriculum, continued Phase 0 Microgrant support and a deep-tech risk-capital service connecting client firms with venture capital and GOED's Battle Born Growth program. The award comes as SBIR and STTR enter a new five-year authorization through September 30, 2031. Source: Nevada Governor's Office of Economic Development (GOED)
