Michigan Governor Signs Bipartisan Bills Expanding Mental-Health Access
Michigan Governor Whitmer has signed a bipartisan package of bills, the governor's office announced Oct. 9, headlined by a reform of limited-license psychologist rules aimed at expanding the supply of mental-health care.
The package includes SB 413 (by Sen. Wojno), which overhauls licensing for limited-license psychologists so more trained providers can legally deliver care; SB 198 (by Sen. Singh), which bars third parties from accessing protected auto-dealer customer data without prior authorization; and SB 102, which streamlines how counties retrieve tax documents.
For many U.S. families, the barrier to mental-health care is not stigma but the wait: too few licensed clinicians means appointments can take weeks. Loosening the limited-license pathway is meant to put more qualified providers into the workforce and shorten those waits.
School stress, elder adjustment, and postpartum struggles are increasingly part of life for Chinese-American families as well. Michigan residents can look up licensed mental-health providers through the state health department and local community mental-health agencies, and verify a provider's license before booking.
