FBI Warning: Scammers Posing as Federal Agents — Real Agents Never Call Demanding Money or Gift Cards
The FBI has again warned that scammers are posing as federal agents, court officials or immigration officers, claiming by phone that the target is under investigation, has a document problem or faces an arrest warrant — then demanding immediate payment, gift cards or personal information. The FBI is clear: real federal officers never demand money by phone, never ask for gift cards, cryptocurrency or wire transfers to 'fix' a case, and never threaten instant arrest for non-payment. GSM's three steps: hang up and do not follow the caller's instructions; call back using the number on the agency's official website to verify; and report it to the FBI's Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) or local police. For immigration or identity-document issues, consult a licensed immigration attorney rather than an unlicensed agent.
