'Be OK' Happy-Dance Format Goes Viral: Smiling Through Chaos Becomes October's Feel-Good Trend
According to New Engen's October TikTok trends roundup, singer Ingrid Michaelson's upbeat track Be OK anchors the month's most feel-good format: creators perform a simple happy dance to camera while layering on chaotic captions that contradict the mood — exploding to-do lists, 99-plus unread work messages, a living room destroyed by the kids — landing the joke and the relatability at the same time.
The roundup contrasted the format with the Halloween horror content flooding feeds at the same time: where everything else is costumes and jump scares, Be OK offers a different emotional release — admitting life is a mess and choosing to dance through it anyway. The choreography is nearly barrier-free for solo creators, parents with kids, or groups of co-workers, and the captions are the real creative work; the more specific and truthful they are, the more shareable the video.
On platforms popular with Chinese-speaking users, localised versions such as a North American worker's Be OK have appeared, with captions covering taxes, car repairs and school-run logistics — shared life pressure doing the cross-cultural work.
