49ers' John Lynch Says Team "Will Not Hesitate to Improve" via Trade

The San Francisco 49ers have put themselves in position to contend — a 4-0 start that many around the NFL view as the league's best — and their front office says it is ready to act if the trade market offers help. President of football operations John Lynch, speaking on a Bay Area radio show on October 8, said a team first has to put itself in position to be a buyer, and then the pieces have to line up.
"Our history speaks to us that we will not hesitate to improve this team if we can," Lynch said. The signature move of his tenure was trading for All-Pro running back Christian McCaffrey from Carolina in exchange for second-, third- and fourth-round picks in 2023 and a fifth-rounder in 2024.
The comments come as injuries test the roster. Star edge rusher Nick Bosa has been out since Week 2 with a calf injury, and coach Kyle Shanahan said this week the team hopes to get him back before its Week 8 bye. Fullback Kyle Juszczyk is expected to miss Sunday's game in Seattle with a knee injury. San Francisco visits the Seahawks this week, then hosts Washington and travels to Atlanta before the bye.
