前盐湖县县长科隆宣布参选2027年盐湖城市长 主打可负担住房
盐湖城 2027 年市长选举的竞争者名单还在继续变长。前盐湖县县长彼得·科隆（Peter Corroon）10 月 8 日确认，他将参选明年的盐湖城市长一职。这使他成为至少第四位加入战局的候选人，而现任市长埃琳·门登霍尔（Erin Mendenhall）至今尚未表态是否寻求第三个任期。
科隆在短信中表示，他参选的重点是推动可负担的自有住房，并帮助家庭留在犹他州，包括扩大托儿服务和课后项目。他说，盐湖城对想在这里安家落户的年轻人和家庭来说已经变得高不可攀（"out of reach"）。他还表示将支持本地企业和非盈利组织。科隆是民主党人，2004 年至 2011 年担任盐湖县县长，2010 年曾作为民主党候选人竞选犹他州州长。
本届市长选战的阵容可谓星光熠熠：州参议院少数党领袖卢兹·埃斯卡米拉（Luz Escamilla）已于今夏早些时候宣布参选，她曾在 2019 年市长选举中败给门登霍尔；盐湖县议员罗斯·罗梅罗（Ross Romero）也已提交参选文件。外界还猜测现任盐湖县县长珍妮·威尔逊（Jenny Wilson）和前州参议员德里克·基钦（Derek Kitchen）可能加入。门登霍尔今年 7 月曾表示尚未决定是否竞选连任。盐湖城房价多年来持续攀升，住房可负担性预计将成为这场选战的头号议题。
Former County Mayor Peter Corroon Joins 2027 Salt Lake City Mayor's Race
Former Salt Lake County Mayor Peter Corroon confirmed on October 8 that he will run for mayor of Salt Lake City in 2027, joining a field that is filling up even though incumbent Erin Mendenhall has not said whether she will seek a third term.
Corroon, a Democrat who served as Salt Lake County mayor from 2004 to 2011 and was the Democratic nominee for governor in 2010, said he will focus on affordable homeownership and on helping families stay in Utah, including through child care and after-school programs. In a text message, he said Salt Lake City has become "out of reach" for young people and families who want to raise their families there. He also plans to support local businesses and nonprofit organizations.
Corroon joins at least three other candidates or likely contenders: state Senate Minority Leader Luz Escamilla, who announced her campaign earlier this summer after losing to Mendenhall in 2019; Salt Lake County Councilmember Ross Romero, who has filed paperwork to run; and possible candidates including current County Mayor Jenny Wilson and former state Senator Derek Kitchen. Mendenhall said in July she had not decided whether to run again.
