New Mexico Signs Quantum Computing Research Deal With Fujitsu
Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham signed an agreement with Tokyo-based Fujitsu in Santa Fe on October 8 to establish a quantum computing research center in New Mexico, ABQ News and the state Economic Development Department reported.
The three-year memorandum of understanding carries no funding commitment from either side, according to the Albuquerque Journal. The partnership will focus on quantum hardware, software, algorithms and theory, along with workforce development. It builds on Fujitsu's 2025 collaboration with New Mexico State University on the FUJITSU-MONAKA processor and will work with the University of New Mexico's Quantum New Mexico Institute.
"Our bet on quantum is paying off," the governor said at the signing, attended by Fujitsu CTO Vivek Mahajan.
The state has invested more than $450 million in quantum infrastructure since 2019. Last month, the 35,000-square-foot Roadrunner Quantum Lab opened in Albuquerque, with Sandia and Los Alamos national laboratories among its first occupants.
