密苏里州男子强迫表弟劳工被判50个月联邦监禁
据美国司法部通报，联邦法官10月8日判处38岁的文卡特什·萨塔鲁50个月联邦监禁，罪名是将其从印度接到圣路易斯地区的表弟强迫从事劳工。
萨塔鲁于4月认罪，罪名包括扣押移民证件和盗窃政府资金。据检方介绍，受害者是萨塔鲁的表弟，2022年12月16日抵达美国后被安置在密苏里州奥法伦，遭受强迫劳工。
联邦地区法官约翰·A·罗斯裁定，联邦刑期与萨塔鲁在州法院因二级家庭暴力获刑的5年刑期并行执行。法院还下令向国土安全部没收74,634美元，并向退伍军人事务部赔偿83,776美元。
两名同案被告此前已判刑：30岁的尼基尔·彭马察8月被判37个月，26岁的斯雷文·佩努梅查6月被判30个月。
Missouri Man Sentenced to 50 Months in Federal Prison for Forced Labor of Cousin
A federal judge on October 8 sentenced Venkatesh Sattaru, 38, to 50 months in federal prison for forcing his cousin into labor after bringing him to the St. Louis area from India, the U.S. Department of Justice announced.
Sattaru pleaded guilty in April to charges including seizing immigration documents and stealing government funds. According to prosecutors, the victim — Sattaru's cousin — arrived in the United States on December 16, 2022, and was housed in O'Fallon, Missouri, where he was subjected to forced labor.
U.S. District Judge John A. Ross ordered the federal sentence to run concurrently with a five-year state sentence Sattaru received for second-degree domestic assault. The court also ordered forfeiture of $74,634 to the Department of Homeland Security and restitution of $83,776 to the Department of Veterans Affairs.
Two co-defendants were previously sentenced: Nikhil Penmatsa, 30, received 37 months in August, and Sravan Penumetcha, 26, received 30 months in June.
