Texans Promote Former Iowa QB Mark Gronowski to Active Roster Ahead of Titans Trip
The Houston Texans bolstered their quarterback depth this week, promoting former Iowa quarterback Mark Gronowski from the practice squad to the 53-man active roster in the team's Wednesday, October 7 roster moves, ahead of Sunday's Week 5 trip to face the Tennessee Titans. Gronowski's road to the roster has been a whirlwind. He signed with the Miami Dolphins as an undrafted free agent in May, was waived and re-signed several times over the summer, and after being released from Miami's practice squad on September 1, he joined Houston's practice squad on September 8. A month later, he has earned the call-up, slotting in behind starter C.J. Stroud and backup Davis Mills. Houston is still searching for its first win at 0-4. Stroud has completed 61.6% of his passes for 1,141 yards and five touchdowns with no interceptions, but the team has yet to put a complete game together. Sunday's opponent offers a mirror image: the Titans are also 0-4, and the loser in Nashville will sink further in the AFC South. For Gronowski, the promotion is his first real foothold on an NFL active roster.
