'Two Fishes' Audio Trend Spreads: Creators Defend Hot Takes With Love Island Clip
According to New Engen's October TikTok trends roundup, an audio clip from Love Island USA cast member Corbin Mims became the month's newest meme vehicle, known to creators as Two Fishes. The format: state a mildly outrageous personal opinion, then play the clip as a mock defence of that take, with the humour coming from the gap between the deadpan delivery and the absurdity of the opinion itself.
The roundup said opinion-plus-defence formats are thriving in October because they satisfy two sharing conditions at once — the opinion makes commenters pick sides, while the shared audio supplies a common comic rhythm. Beauty, fitness, school and workplace accounts have all released versions, on topics ranging from dessert for breakfast to skipping meetings whenever possible.
Compared with dance trends, audio memes cost less to join — state the take to camera and sync the clip — and they translate more easily across languages. Chinese-speaking creators' versions have clustered around study-abroad, workplace and family-life topics, giving the meme a second home beyond its original audience.
