The Dallas Cowboys suffered a humbling home defeat on Thursday night, falling 24-16 to the previously winless Tampa Bay Buccaneers at AT&T Stadium in Arlington to drop back below .500. Dallas led 10-0 early on a one-yard Javonte Williams touchdown run, but Tampa Bay took control behind undrafted rookie quarterback Jalon Daniels. The Buccaneers rushed for 241 yards, with Bucky Irving piling up 165 yards on the ground and scoring twice — once rushing and once receiving. The Cowboys' comeback died on their final possession, when a Dak Prescott pass slipped through tight end Jake Ferguson's hands and was intercepted by linebacker Alex Anzalone. Injuries compounded the loss. Star receiver CeeDee Lamb, who had caught 17 passes for 189 yards on Sunday, barely played in the second half with a quad injury and finished with just two catches for nine yards; tackle Tyler Guyton, safety Alijah Clark and linebacker Jaishawn Barham also left the game. George Pickens (nine catches, 130 yards, one touchdown) was the bright spot. Prescott, who threw for 316 yards with two interceptions, said of Ferguson's drop that it was simply unfortunate and that he would stand behind his teammate.
Tampa Bay won despite 14 penalties, improving to 1-4.
