Virginia Governor Announces $22.7 Million in CDBG Grants for 17 Community Projects
Virginia Governor Abigail Spanberger announced on October 6 that $22.7 million in Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding will support 17 community projects across the state. The grants, administered through the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development, target infrastructure, housing, and economic development in small cities and rural communities.
The funded projects include water and sewer system upgrades, downtown revitalization efforts, affordable housing construction, and support for small business development. State officials said the projects were selected through a competitive application process prioritizing communities with the greatest need.
CDBG is a long-running federal program that gives states flexible funding for community development. Virginia's allocation this year reflects continued federal support for rural infrastructure, a priority Spanberger highlighted during her campaign.
Local officials in recipient communities welcomed the announcement, saying the grants will unlock projects that have been on waiting lists for years. The state expects the projects to create or retain hundreds of jobs.
