National City Residents Press Council to Investigate Councilmember's Alleged Degree Misstatement, Urge Censure
Numerous National City residents used the public comment period at the October 6 City Council meeting to urge the council to investigate and consider censuring Councilmember Jose Rodriguez. Reports said Rodriguez had listed a San Diego State University bachelor's degree on his appointment application materials, which his campaign later acknowledged he did not earn. Speakers argued the issue undermines public trust and demanded a formal response from the council.
