Idaho to Begin Prescribed Burns at Ponderosa State Park in October
The Idaho Department of Lands will begin prescribed burns at Ponderosa State Park in October, according to an announcement carried by EIN Presswire on October 6. The controlled burns are part of the state's forest health and wildfire prevention program.
Prescribed burning reduces accumulated underbrush and dead timber that fuel catastrophic wildfires, while promoting the growth of fire-resistant ponderosa pines. State forestry officials said the burns will be conducted under strict weather and safety conditions, with smoke management plans in place to minimize impacts on nearby communities.
Ponderosa State Park, on the Payette Lake peninsula near McCall, is one of Idaho's most visited state parks. Officials said some trails and day-use areas may close temporarily during burn operations, and visitors should check the park's website for updates.
The burns are part of a broader push across the West to use 'good fire' as a land management tool, a practice long advocated by forest ecologists and tribal land managers.
