White House Bars Politico From Air Force One Press Pool for Trump's Nebraska Trip
The White House on Oct. 5 barred Politico from traveling aboard Air Force One with President Trump to a campaign rally in Nebraska, removing the outlet from the traveling press pool. A White House official said in a statement: “Many outlets including Politico are granted access to attend and cover presidential events unilaterally, but traveling with the President of the United States aboard Air Force One is a privilege not a right.” A Politico spokesperson confirmed the exclusion but declined further comment.
The move comes amid an ongoing legal fight between the Trump administration and several news organizations. Last month the White House banned Politico, CNN and MS NOW from the White House over what it called “fake news” reporting; a federal judge then ordered the administration to temporarily restore their access, an order in effect until Oct. 8. Last week the White House removed CNN from the press pool for Trump's trip to Texas and Oklahoma. A hearing on the outlets' request for longer-term protection is scheduled for Thursday.
