Rhode Island announced $16 million in funding for local food production and agriculture at the kickoff of Rhode Island Grown Week on October 5. According to WJAR, the money will support the state's farms, food processors and farmers markets, helping local products reach schools, hospitals and community tables. State officials said that although Rhode Island is small, agriculture and fisheries are vital pillars of the local economy and food security, and investing in the local food system creates jobs while strengthening supply-chain resilience. The kickoff in Providence drew local farmers and food businesses showcasing the state's produce, seafood and dairy.
