纽约州州长凯西·霍楚10月5日宣布扩大免费社区大学计划，将覆盖范围延伸至25岁至55岁的成年人。据州长办公室发布的消息，该计划免除符合条件者在纽约州立大学和城市大学系统社区学院的学费，旨在帮助在职成年人提升技能、转行或完成学位。霍楚表示，在就业市场快速变化的背景下，州政府要让重返校园不再被学费挡在门外。此前该州的免费大学计划主要面向应届高中毕业生，此次扩围被视为纽约州应对劳动力短缺、提升就业竞争力的关键举措。符合条件的申请人可从下一学期起申请入学。
New York Expands Free Community College to Adults Ages 25 to 55
New York Governor Kathy Hochul announced on October 5 an expansion of the state's free community college program to adults ages 25 to 55. According to the governor's office, the program waives tuition at SUNY and CUNY community colleges for eligible students, helping working adults build skills, change careers or finish degrees. Hochul said that with the job market changing fast, the state must ensure tuition no longer blocks adults returning to school. The program previously focused mainly on recent high school graduates; the expansion is seen as a key move to address labor shortages and boost workforce competitiveness. Eligible applicants may enroll starting next semester.
