Michigan Governor Signs Bipartisan Bills on Cannabis Education, Gift Card Fraud
Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer signed several bipartisan bills on October 5 covering cannabis consumer education and gift card fraud. According to the state government's website, the new laws require stronger consumer education at cannabis retailers so the public understands legal products' ingredients, dosage and risks; another measure targets rampant gift card scams by clarifying coordination duties for retailers and law enforcement and toughening penalties for laundering and fraud via gift cards. Whitmer said the bills were joint bipartisan efforts reflecting a shared commitment to Michigan families. Agencies will now draft implementation rules to put the laws into effect.
