Trump Says U.S. May Take Stakes in OpenAI, Anthropic
President Trump told TIME magazine the federal government may take equity stakes in OpenAI and Anthropic, following the model of its Intel investment, while ruling out nationalizing top AI labs.
In 2025 the U.S. government invested about $8.9 billion for a roughly 9.9% stake in Intel. The remarks signal Washington is weighing equity participation in frontier AI, though no concrete investment plan exists yet.
