The city of Anaheim has released a redacted legal claim filed by Mayor Ashleigh Aitken's policy adviser, alleging the mayor has a drinking problem and fostered a hostile workplace that included racial and homophobic slurs. The city said the release balances openness on an issue involving the mayor with privacy responsibilities.
Anaheim will hire an independent, experienced investigator to review the allegations over the coming months. Councilwoman Natalie Meeks said she has directed staff to investigate fully and expeditiously: "Clearly, we need a full and fair investigation... Getting it right is more important than getting it fast." The mayor has not responded to requests for comment.
