Shaffelburg Brace Lifts Canada Past Peru 2-0 in Montreal for Second Straight Win
On October 3, 2026, Canada's men's national soccer team beat Peru 2-0 in an international friendly at Stade Saputo in Montreal. MLSsoccer.com and OneSoccer reported that Los Angeles FC winger Jacob Shaffelburg scored both goals in the first half for Jesse Marsch's side.
Shaffelburg opened the scoring in the 19th minute, finishing at the back post after Daniel Jebbison flicked on Liam Millar's cross. In the 35th minute, Millar delivered another cross that Peru goalkeeper Diego Romero could not push clear, and Shaffelburg nodded home from close range. The two goals, 16 minutes apart, gave Canada a cushion it protected for a clean sheet.
The win was Canada's second straight victory and second straight shutout of this international window, following a 1-0 win over Chile in Toronto the previous weekend. Coach Jesse Marsch said the team's control and attacking clarity were at a high level, while Shaffelburg said the goals, his first for Canada in almost two years, were a major boost to his confidence.
Canada next faces the United States on Tuesday, October 6, to close the three-match window. As the opening of the 2030 World Cup cycle, back-to-back wins over South American opposition gave Marsch an encouraging start as he integrates younger players, and Montreal's home crowd witnessed what the team billed as a homecoming at Stade Saputo.
