尤马医生3600万美元医保欺诈案被判7年余监禁
亚利桑那州尤马——10月2日，尤马医生伊尔凡·法齐尔（Irfan Fazil）因参与3600万美元的亚利桑那州医疗补助（AHCCCS）欺诈案被判处7年以上监禁。据《亚利桑那共和报》10月6日报道，这是该州近年来破获的最大医保欺诈案之一。
检方指控，法齐尔利用医生身份，通过虚假账单与回扣等手段，从州医疗补助系统骗取巨额资金。调查显示，涉案团伙伪造医疗记录、虚报诊疗项目，将本应用于低收入患者的医保资金中饱私囊。
联邦法官在量刑时表示，医保欺诈直接侵害纳税人与真正需要救助的患者，性质恶劣，必须严惩。除监禁外，法齐尔还被责令支付巨额赔偿金，并被永久禁止参与联邦医保项目。
亚利桑那州总检察长办公室表示，将继续与联邦机构合作打击医保欺诈，守护公共医疗资金的安全。此案也提醒医疗机构加强内部合规，避免成为欺诈的工具。
Yuma Doctor Sentenced to Over 7 Years in $36 Million Health Care Fraud Case
YUMA, Ariz. — Yuma physician Irfan Fazil was sentenced on Oct. 2 to more than seven years in prison for his role in a $36 million fraud scheme against Arizona's Medicaid program (AHCCCS), azcentral reported on Oct. 6. It is among the largest health care fraud cases uncovered in the state in recent years.
Prosecutors said Fazil used his medical credentials to siphon funds from the state Medicaid system through false billing and kickbacks. Investigators found the ring fabricated medical records and billed for services never rendered, pocketing money meant for low-income patients.
The federal judge said at sentencing that health care fraud directly harms taxpayers and patients in genuine need, calling for stiff punishment. Beyond prison time, Fazil was ordered to pay massive restitution and permanently barred from federal health programs.
The Arizona Attorney General's Office said it will keep working with federal partners to combat health care fraud and safeguard public medical dollars — and urged providers to strengthen compliance so they aren't used as fraud vehicles.
