A Thurston County Superior Court judge ruled October 2 to permanently block a local law setting qualification standards for county sheriff candidates in Washington state, The Eagle reported.
The law had imposed extra eligibility requirements on sheriff hopefuls, sparking debate over whether the county exceeded its legislative authority. Plaintiffs argued sheriff qualifications are set by state law and counties cannot add barriers; the judge agreed, issuing a permanent injunction.
