科尔顿警察局10月2日接报一名持手枪男子出现心理健康危机并表达自伤意图，警员到场后确认其处于危机状态，运用危机谈判与降级战术长时间沟通，在邻近执法机构支援下说服其和平投降，无人受伤。
警方称，此次结果体现了一线人员危机干预培训在应对行为健康紧急事件中的作用。
Colton: Police peacefully resolve armed mental-health crisis through negotiation
Colton police officers responded on October 2 to reports of a man armed with a handgun who was in mental-health crisis and expressing intentions of self-harm. Officers confirmed the man was in crisis and used crisis negotiation and de-escalation tactics over an extended period, with support from neighboring law enforcement agencies, persuading him to surrender peacefully. No one was injured.
The department said the outcome demonstrates the effectiveness of crisis intervention training for front-line personnel responding to behavioral health emergencies.
