Kotek and Drazan Face Off in First Gubernatorial Debate in Eugene
[EUGENE] The first debate of Oregon's gubernatorial race took place October 1 in Eugene, pitting incumbent Gov. Tina Kotek against challenger Christine Drazan, the Register-Guard reported. The debate centered on the housing crisis, wildfire response and education funding.
Kotek highlighted her administration's housing investments and pledged to keep expanding affordable-housing supply; Drazan criticized the incumbent's handling of homelessness and called for land-use reform to speed up homebuilding.
On wildfires, both backed more prevention spending but differed on funding sources. Both campaigns claimed victory afterward. The next debate date has not been announced.
