One suspect arrested in Buena Park was identified in reports as Abel Ávila Martínez, 48. Investigators allege the ring applied for credit cards using other people's identity information and fabricated Social Security numbers, causing losses to banks and to residents whose identities were misused.
The allegations remain the government's claims at this stage; the cases await formal charges and court proceedings, and all suspects are presumed innocent under the law. Federal officials said the investigation is continuing, with the number of people involved and the dollar losses still to be released.
