Taylor Swift Premieres 'Patient Zero' Music Video With Star Cameos
Taylor Swift premiered the music video for her new song 'Patient Zero' on Oct. 1, with cameo appearances by Dakota Johnson and Colin Farrell, according to PEOPLE's weekly entertainment roundup — instantly making it the day's most talked-about music release. Swift's album 'The Life of a Showgirl' was in the midst of a long-running No. 1 cycle on the Billboard 200, and the video launch served as another promotional wave for the record.
The same week, Swift made the radio rounds in New York while Anne Hathaway promoted her film 'Verity,' opening Oct. 2. PEOPLE's roundup also noted Madonna's big night at the MTV Video Music Awards, where she performed alongside Sabrina Carpenter and Charli xcx.
Industry watchers said top artists increasingly treat video premieres as event releases, with celebrity cameos and social media conversation feeding album consumption. Chart watchers were set to track 'Patient Zero' over the following week to gauge the video's impact on the single's performance.
The premiere landed in the densest stretch of Swift's promotional calendar, with radio, streaming and television exposure for the new album running in parallel. Based on her past release patterns, 'Patient Zero' was expected to make a significant jump on the Billboard Hot 100 when the next chart was published the following week.
