San Bernardino Unveils Downtown Revitalization Proposals
San Bernardino city planners have proposed a package of downtown revitalization initiatives, including an Entrepreneurial Resource Center with Cal State San Bernardino's Inland Empire Center for Entrepreneurship to counsel existing and startup businesses; a feasibility study for turning Court Street between D and E Streets into a pedestrian corridor for farmers markets, arts, culture and food events; and work with downtown businesses and property owners toward a property and business improvement district.
The proposals also include a downtown satellite campus with Cal State San Bernardino and additional police officers for a permanent downtown quality-of-life team. City officials note downtown holds only 1.4 percent of the city's population but provides 19 percent of its jobs; many of the specific steps will require City Council approval.
