New York City Puts $200,000 Toward Small-Business Panic Buttons and Security Technology
New York City Council Speaker Julie Menin announced on October 8 that the Council will provide $200,000 to help small businesses buy and install panic buttons and other security technology, as the city continues efforts to curb retail theft. The money will be split equally among the five boroughs through the Five Borough Chamber Alliance Initiative, with borough chambers helping local businesses access the support.
The Council said ground-floor retail establishments with 50 or fewer employees will be eligible, with priority for businesses outside Business Improvement Districts, in low- to moderate-income communities, and minority- and women-owned businesses. The funding is intended as an immediate bridge while the city develops the permanent small retail business security program required under Local Law 120. (Source: New York City Council)
