Saints Mark 20th Anniversary of Superdome Reopening in Domecoming Game
On October 5, the New Orleans Saints hosted a home game marking the 20th anniversary of the Superdome's reopening after Hurricane Katrina. The 2006 reopening game remains a defining symbol of the city's recovery, commemorated by a statue outside the stadium honoring the famous blocked punt from that night. About 70,000 fans attended this year's rematch, which the visiting Atlanta Falcons won 45-24. Although the home team fell short, the Domecoming celebration gave longtime residents a chance to revisit a milestone in the city's rebuilding story, two decades on from the storm.
