No. 4 Miami seized sole possession of first place in the ACC on Saturday night, October 3, rolling past Clemson 41-13 at Memorial Stadium — the Hurricanes' first win in "Death Valley" since 2010. Miami improved to 5-0 overall and 3-0 in league play. Quarterback Darian Mensah completed 18 of 27 passes for 227 yards and a touchdown, added a 34-yard rushing score, and extended his streak to 23 straight games with a touchdown pass. Cooper Barkate caught five passes for 98 yards, including a touchdown on Miami's first snap from scrimmage, and Mark Fletcher Jr. returned from injury to rush for 77 yards and two touchdowns. Freshman JJ Dunnigan sealed the rout with a 39-yard pick-six in the final minutes.
Clemson freshman quarterback Tait Reynolds threw for a career-high 295 yards but was sacked six times. Head coach Dabo Swinney called it the fourth-worst loss of his tenure, as the Tigers fell to 3-2. Miami now heads into its bye week before the annual rivalry game against Florida State.
