Houston Selected for Federal Program, to Receive $12 Million Over Four Years for Homelessness Recovery
On October 2 in Houston, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services announced eight communities selected for the new STREETS program, which will provide $96 million over four years through SAMHSA. The initiative aims to build coordinated care for people experiencing homelessness who live with serious mental illness, substance use disorders, or co-occurring conditions. The City of Houston Health Department's Human Services Division is among the recipients and will receive $3 million a year for four years. Local nonprofits and community groups may watch for upcoming city announcements on outreach, treatment, and housing support services.
