Houston Launches $60 Million Plan to Upgrade 25 Neighborhood Parks

Houston has kicked off Let's Play Houston, a citywide effort that officials call the largest neighborhood park investment in the city's history. Mayor John Whitmire joined the Houston Parks Board and the Parks and Recreation Department at a groundbreaking in Lawrence Park in the Heights. About $60 million in public and private funding will upgrade 25 neighborhood parks over the next two years, with roughly $2 million going to Lawrence Park. Greenwood, Andover, Haviland, and Montie Beach parks are also entering construction. Some parks may close briefly during work, so families should check city notices before visiting.
