芝加哥查塔姆社区7岁女童街头遭刺身亡 路人当场制服嫌疑人

7-Year-Old Girl Fatally Stabbed While Walking in Chatham; Bystanders Detain Suspect as Chicago Mourns
A 7-year-old girl was fatally stabbed in broad daylight on Saturday, October 3, while walking with her family in Chicago's Chatham neighborhood. Police said Edi Mari Hernandez Chacon was walking southbound in the 8600 block of South Cottage Grove Avenue at about 11:55 a.m. when a woman approached her, displayed a sharp object and stabbed her multiple times in the back. The child was taken to Comer Children's Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Bystanders who witnessed the attack detained the suspect until officers arrived; the woman was injured during the confrontation, treated at a hospital for non-life-threatening injuries and taken into police custody, authorities said. Mayor Brandon Johnson said he was heartbroken by the killing of a child who was "simply walking down the street with her family," adding that no child should have to fear for her life in her own neighborhood. The killing sparked outrage and grief across the city, and community members gathered to mourn the girl.
